Congratulations on your purchase of a lightsaber from Parsec Sabers! Your new saber is a high-quality, durable piece of equipment that, with proper care and maintenance, will provide you with years of enjoyment. In this guide, we'll cover the basics of maintaining and customizing your saber to keep it in top condition.
Maintaining Your Saber
Step 1: Cleaning
- To clean your lightsaber, use a dry or slightly damp cloth to wipe down the hilt and blade. Avoid using any harsh chemicals or abrasives as they can scratch and damage the hilt.
- For blades with a removable end cap, carefully remove the cap (this step is relevant only for Pixel blades) and use a soft brush to clean the blade connector. Once finished, reattach the end cap to protect the connector.
- For Xeno-Pixel sabers, take care when handling the pins and make sure to keep them clear of dust or other particles. We recommend using a blade plug to cover the pins when the blade is not inserted.
Step 2: Battery Maintenance
- To prolong the life of your battery, it is important to charge it fully before use and to avoid overcharging it.
- It is also a good idea to remove the battery when the saber is not in use for an extended period of time to prevent leakage and damage.
Step 3: Storing
- When not in use, store your saber in a dry and cool place, preferably in its original packaging or a protective case to prevent damage.
Step 4: Inserting/Removing Blades
- When inserting your blade make sure that all screws are removed before inserting.
- Once inserted tighten all screws equally. The screws simply hold the blade in place and should not penetrate the blade.
- DO NO twist the blade once inserted, this could damage both the pins and the connector.
By following these simple steps, you can keep your lightsaber in top condition and enjoy it for many years to come.
Customising Your Saber
In this guide, we'll cover the basics of customizing your saber to make it truly your own.
Step 1: Customizing the Hilt
- The outside of your saber, or hilt, can be customized in a variety of ways. Weathering is a popular technique that adds a realistic, used look to the hilt. The hilt is made from aluminium which means that it can be weathered in various ways.
- You can also add fabric or other materials to the hilt to give it a unique, real-world touch.
Step 2: Customizing the Blade
- The blade of your saber can also be customized to give it a unique look. A popular technique is to add black electrical tape to the blade. This can be done straight down each side to create a darksaber blade effect or in various styles like spirals and checkerboard.
Step 3: Customizing the Electronics (Xeno-Pixel Sabers)
- Xeno-Pixel sabers are also customizable on the electronics side, you can add or remove sound fonts, change the speed of ignitions and extinguishing blades, create your own sound fonts and set default presets for each sound font.
- Before doing any customizing of the electronics, it is important to make a backup of the original settings
Detailed Instruction on Customizing the Electronics (Xeno-Pixel Sabers)
Step 1: Access the Xeno-Pixel Chassis
1.1. Remove the grip and pommel of the saber to access the Xeno-Pixel chassis.
1.2. Carefully remove the battery by lightly tapping the end of the chassis against your hand. Make sure to note the orientation of the positive and negative ends for proper reinsertion.
Step 2: Remove the Micro SD Card
2.1. Locate the Micro SD card in the chassis and take note of its orientation.
2.2. Carefully remove the Micro SD card using your fingers or tweezers. Avoid forcing the card upward or downward to prevent damage to the connector.
Step 3: Insert the Micro SD Card into a Windows PC
3.1. Insert the Micro SD card into the USB converter and plug it into a Windows PC.
3.2. Once inserted, you will be able to access the files on the card. We recommend backing up all files to your PC before editing them.
Step 4: Customize Sound Fonts
4.1. On the Micro SD card, you will see numbered folders, each representing a soundfont.
4.2. To add a soundfont, drag the downloaded folder into the main directory and name it the next number in the sequence.
4.3. To remove a soundfont, delete or move the folder off the Micro SD card. If a number is missing, rename the largest number folder to the same number as the deleted folder. Then, modify the config file in the set folder and copy the config for the largest number and paste it in the place of the deleted soundfont.
Step 5: Customize the Overall Config
5.1. In the main directory, you will find the “set” folder. This is the core of the Xeno-Pixel saber and includes the overall config file and main saber sounds such as “power on” and “charging”.
5.2. The config .txt file is where you can modify the speeds of overall pre-ignitions, as well as the defaults for each soundfont. You can also modify other settings such as ignition speed, default color, blade mode, and more. Instructions are provided in this .txt file.
Step 6: Safely Remove the Micro SD Card
6.1. Before removing the Micro SD card, make sure to click “Safely Remove Hardware” and then remove the USB from the PC.
6.2. Reinsert the Micro SD card into the saber and reinsert the battery.
